Climate Resilient Gardening

A live Masterclass with Ellie Mitchell

Tuesday 10th November 2026 at 7:30pm

Join professional wildlife gardener Ellie Mitchell to discover practical ways to help your garden thrive in a changing climate, while supporting the wildlife that depends on it.

With hotter summers, prolonged dry spells and increasingly unpredictable weather, our gardens are facing new challenges. In this masterclass, Ellie will be exploring how we can adapt the way we garden, choose plants wisely and make simple changes that help both our gardens and the wildlife that depends on them.

What you'll learn

● How climate change is affecting our gardens and the wildlife that lives in them.

● Simple ways to conserve water and help your garden cope with dry spells.

● How trees, shade and garden microclimates can make a difference.

● What to consider when choosing plants, including the role of native and non-native species.

● How to garden more sustainably, from peat-free planting to reusing materials.

● Practical steps you can take to create a more resilient, wildlife-friendly garden.

Whether you're starting a new garden or adapting an established one, you'll come away with ideas to help your garden thrive through changing conditions.

Meet your host, Ellie

Ellie is a professional wildlife gardener in Nottingham. She gardens organically and has a passion for making gardens as attractive to wildlife as possible, while creating beautiful spaces for people too. In 2021-2023 Ellie co-hosted The Wildlife Garden Podcast, where she interviewed the experts and researchers in wildlife gardening, to get the most up to date science out there for everyone to use. She loves encouraging others to join in with her obsession with plants, particularly native plants, and the wildlife they provide for.

When she’s not wielding her secateurs in her clients’ gardens, she writes about wildlife gardening for the members’ magazine of Plantlife, the national plant conservation charity. More locally in Nottingham, she also volunteers for Wild.NG and Hedgepigs, where she helps care for sick or underweight Hedgehogs.
